STUDENTS' VOCABULARY MASTERY THROUGH SHORT MOVIE OF THE ELEVENTH GRADE STUDENTS AT VOCATIONAL HIGH SCHOOL IN YOGYAKARTA

Vocabulary is one of the English components that need to be mastered by the learners. Most of the students had a problem in mastering vocabulary. This also happened at vocational high school where students' vocabulary mastery is still low. This research is about learning vocabulary through a short movie to the eleventh-grade students of vocational high school in Yogyakarta. The objective of this research are to find out the implementation of a short movie in improving students’ vocabulary mastery and the effect of using a short movie on students’ vocabulary mastery.

In this study, the researcher used Descriptive Qualitative Research as a research method. The researcher conducted an observation, interview, and questionnaire with 26 participants in eleventh grade students. The result of the data was developed and analyzed using three major phases of data analysis. They were data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing or verification.

The findings of this research revealed that the short movie improved students' vocabulary mastery. The data showed that all students agreed that learning vocabulary using short movies could improve their vocabulary. The teacher also approved it. Almost all students can raise their scores. Students felt enjoy and happiest in the teaching and learning process. The short movie becomes an appropriate technique to help the students improve vocabulary mastery.
