DEVELOPING SUPPLEMENTARY READING MATERIAL FOR MAJORING ENGLISH LITERATURE SUBJECT AT SMA BOPKRI 1 YOGYAKARTA

The objectives of this study are (1) to describe developement supplementary English material for senior high school students (2) describe the efficacy of poetry as the supplementary English material

This research belongs to Educational Research and Development (R&D) using a simplified six steps of Borg and Gall’s model (1983). The six steps are as follows. (1) Conducting need  analysis, (2) Constructing the  course  grid, (3)  Developing the Preliminary Material (4) Tryout of Preliminary Material, (5) Evaluation and revision by the experts, and (6) Final product.

The finding shows 1) The Development material was to fulfill the students’ need, the result of need analysis was used to develop the English material. The content of material for one Expressions, Grammar, Vocabulary and Text. To stimulate students to think before they went to the main activity is warming up, continue with reading also practice to write and read the poem. In this step the data were gathered by expert judgment to evaluate the product. 2) the efficacy of using poetry as the supplementary material  helps students, improves vocabularie. The development of the textbook English materials using Borg and Gall’s model yields effective English materials to enrich students’ vocabularies in the term of proffessions future. It can attract students to actively involve in the teaching and learning process. Furthermore, the textbook English materials of this study provide additional learning resource for students to learn at home.
