The Analysis of Duolingo Application as the Learning Media for Young Learners

Abstrak

This research describes the implementation of Duolingo as a learning media for young learners on online learning. The objectives of this research are 1) describing the implementation of Duolingo as the learning media for young learners and 2) investigating students’ responses toward the Duolingo application.

This research used a Classroom Action Research (CAR) adopted descriptive analysis. The participants in this research were twenty students in fifth-grade class at SD N Sawit. The data collection technique used interview for the English teacher, documentation for preparing the lesson plan, and a questionnaire for students. Data analysis begins from preparing and organizing, transcribing, exploring, forming a description, discussing, and concluding (Creswell, 2012).

The results of this research showed that 1) Duolingo applied used to deliver material about the Profession. Duolingo was implemented as media in the teaching-learning process in two cycles. Duolingo is applied in three teaching stages – elaboration, exploration and confirmation. The Duolingo application applied on the confirmation stage in the teaching-learning process. 2) the students’ responses toward Duolingo gave positive vibes, the Duolingo simple tasks were easy to understand which made the students fun and enjoy to study English.
